E3 2011 – X-Men Destiny

Have you ever wanted to play an X-Men game where you don’t get to play as any of your favorite characters? Would you also like to be teased by having the original X-Men that you cannot play as, appear though out the game only to advance the story? If you answered yes to both of these questions then Silicon Knights (of “Too Human” infamy) has the game for you this fall with X-Men Destiny.

X-Men Destiny is a single player only game that takes place in the current time line for the X-Men comic books in the city of San Francisco. All of the mutants have divided into two factions: the X-Men and The Brotherhood of Mutants. This is where X-Men Destiny picks up the story line. Players will be given the choice of 3 new mutants and then take over from there. These 3 new mutants have a clean slate of powers that will be determined by whoever is behind the controller. The powers from the classic X-Men characters will be unlockable and allowed to be swapped out depending on situation or boss in the game.

The freedom to chose is a common theme in this game as players can also chose whether they want to take the side of Colossus and the X-Men or Gambit and The Brotherhood of Mutants. Personally, I don’t think you can go wrong with Gambit. But you can’t play as Gambit so what does it matter? If you are a hardcore X-Men fan, then you may want to choose to pick this game up. If not, don’t worry about it as there will be plenty of other solid titles coming out to keep you busy this fall.
